HAIR
Music by Galt MacDermot
Book and Lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado
HAIR was written four years before the draft was enacted – an unfortunately accurate dark prediction of what could happen should the conflict in Vietnam continue. This production capitalizes on our developed understanding of the Vietnam War and its affects on those who experienced it. PTSD is a painful example of war’s ability to endure long after physical conflict has ended: after Vietnam, society moved on, leaving many veterans alone to suffer the consequences of war. With the recent end of the war in Iraq and the continuation of the war in Afghanistan, America is ushering in a new generation of Veterans. Soldier’s lives do not end when troops are withdrawn or political agreements are signed. What is our responsibility to them?
